Bristol Henleaze Swimming Club

The club is drawing up a list of open meets we are targeting for 2009/2010 and for those of you new to the game we thought it appropriate to give a short description of open meets. The first meet we are targeting will be late November or early December. Some swimmers may want to do extra meets outside of this programme and they should always consult their coach before entering. Open meets are run by swimming clubs or groups of swimming clubs and cover a full range of age groups and events and occupy a full weekend. The importance of open meets is that they give swimmers valuable experience of competition and above all provide them with times to measure their progress. They are also very important to obtain qualifying times for County, Regional and National competitions. A diary will be published in due course and updated when we get information about meets for next year.

The meets are in four levels and reflect the grade of swimmer for whom the competition is designed and the table below summarises the ASA rules from September 2009 onwards. Level 4 meets are not common and are usually for club championships.

The dates and venues for the Gloucester County Championships have been published and  are given in the table below.

The entries for a meet involve a fair amount of work and we are looking for volunteers to help with this. A competition secretary to oversee meet entries and  those for the Gloucester County Championships would be very desirable. Any help would be greatly appreciated and a number of volunteers would be helpful so the workload can be spread.

Another excellent performance by our swimmers who were outstandingly well behaved and cheered each other along throughout the gala.  We achieved 25PB’s with swims of the night going to Lara Coode with an 8sec PB in her 50 fly,  Keshan De Alwis also achieving an 8sec PB in his 50 breast, Chloe Walbridge with a 5sec PB in her 50 free, William Darby with a 4sec PB in his 50 fly and Matthew Burton with a 3sec PB in his 50 back. Sam Marshall did an excellent 25m fly to break the club record for this event.

The gala was very close after 10 events we were drawing first place with Bishopsworth, after 20 events Backwell were in the lead, after 30 events we were leading again, after 46 events we were drawing first place again with Backwell, we had to win the cannon to secure a win overall and we went out and won this event by 13 seconds.

Well done to all swimmers and helpers on the night for a well deserved win.

The Gloucester County Open Water Championships take place on Sunday 12th July at Henleaze Lake.

The BHSC team for this event is given below, please let Kathryn Wragg know your avalabilty. There will be training days at Henleaze Lake on Saturdays 27th June and 11th July from 10.00am to 11.00am.
