Well there was nothing Spring like about this Open meet, the weather was positively Summer like with temperatures reaching 20 degrees plus outside the pool and the swimmers, coaches, helpers and parents were able to grab a few moments of sunshine on the grass and enjoy their picnic style lunches and grab a taste of the weather that everyone else was enjoying. The atmosphere at Millfield is like no other and an experience that not all Swimmers are lucky enough to have and this was the first time at Millfield for some of our swimmers. It certainly did not disappoint. There were 5 Bristol Henleaze swimmers in total, all swimmers were impeccably behaved and supported one another throughout the races and this was great to see. Representing the Boys was Zak Elliot in the 12 year old age group and Daniel Hibbard in the 13 year old category. In the Girls 12 year old age group was Molly Huckle and Maddie Nairn and in the 9 year old girls age group Alysia Maestri. At 9 years old and Alysia’s first swim competitively in a long course pool one can not underestimate the results that she achieved. To be able to do this with such composure and a smile was a credit to Alysia and the club. There were medals to be picked up for the fastest 6 competitors with Maddie Nairn picking up 2 Bronze medals for her 50 Free and 100 Free along with place medals for finishing 5th in the 100 Back and 6th in the 50 Breast. Molly Huckle took 8s off her 200 free time and attacked from the start giving a very strong swim in a large popular competitive age group. Zak Elliot also did a great 200 free swim knocking off 7s from his entered time. Daniel Hibbard just missed out on place medals coming 7th in the 50 Fly and 8th in the 100 Freestyle. Alysia managed to bag a Gold in the 50 Breast, 50 Free and 200 Free along with a Silver for her 200 Breast just missing out on the Gold by less than a second but with a much better technical swim. To add to this there was a Bronze for her 200 back and 5th place medals for the 50 Back and 50 Fly. The Open meets are a great chance to compete and gain experience and it would be great to see more Bristol Henleaze swimmers take on the challenge. Individual results can be found on the data base. A huge well done to all and thanks to all that contributed. Tina Huckle. |
