Monday, 28 November 2011

Due to the extended closure of Clifton High School pool, the venue and times have been changed.

The session will now take place at Bristol University pool, with swimming from 2pm to 4pm and the talk from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.

You should have received a confirmation e-mail - please contact us if you have not.

Come and join in a 2 hr coaching session with international GB breast stroke champion Michael Jamieson from Bath ITC. You will then have an opportunity to listen to a nutrition and motivation talk by Michael and have a chance to ask questions.

Michael is the 2010 British 200m breast stroke champion and is going to be trying to qualify for the British Olympic Team. He will be travelling to the British training camp in Australia in December until mid-February, so this is a rare chance to get to know a possible Olympian and British Champion.

Places for the clinic will be issued on a first come first served basis at a cost of £25 per swimmer. Limited places available.

Please e-mail Richard or Kathryn for a form. Cheques and the completed form must be returned by Monday 12th Dec with cheque made payable to Bristol Henleaze S.C. to Marco Maestri or Sue Gardiner. All places and lane allocations have been confirmed by e-mail.

This session is now full, but you may submit a form to be placed on the reserve list.

Report from the Bath Grand Prix held at the University Pool Bath 19th /20th November.
10 Bristol Henleaze swimmers (plus 4 swimming for CoB) went to this high quality meet (well quality in the calibre of swimmers!!)
This was a new experience for some as it was Level 1 meet in a long course (50m) pool. And some experienced the difference between Long and Short Course racing for the first time, demonstrating the value of training in the longer pool. We had some good swims from all that attended, with most swimmer at or above their best times.
Alysia Maestri PB'd in her 200 Free, 200 back (5.5secs), 200 Breast (7secs) 200 IM (2secs) 50 Breast.
Sam Marshall PB'd in his 50Breast, 50Free, 100free (2secs).
Marcus Gardiner PB'd in his 50 Breast (1.7secs) Joint first and ranking him 2nd in his age. group in the country! 200 Breast (1.5secs), 50 free (0.6) 100 free (1.3secs) 100 Breast and 1.9sec PB in his 200IM.
Laura Waters PB'd in her 50 fly.
Molly Huckle took 2 secs off her 100 free and PB'd in the 50 Back.
Oriana Munden Pb'd in her 100Back (1sec) and 2secs in her 50back.
Holly Tanner Pb'd in her 100 free. swimming well in the 50.
Maddie Nairn swam close to her converted times consolidating her good swims in the club championships.
Charlie Waters learnt how different fly is in a 50m pool, good effort Charlie.
A successful meet, lets hope we can build on this weekend with more swimmers attending and more PB's in our future programmed open meets. We all need to train hard for the upcoming Gloucester Championships, where we have 60 swimmers qualifying, more swimmers than in previous years and hopefully enter some really strong teams in the relay, please make yourself available.
A big thank you to Sue Gardiner for looking after the swimmers and coach all weekend and to Brian for being a official.

National Arena League Round 2 Report Print

Monday, 14 November 2011

This was the held at Bath Leisure Centre and was the second of the series of the 3 galas, the final gala to be held on Saturday December 10th.  In our division there are 18 clubs from all over the South West of England and Wales. These galas are the highest level that our club competes at as a team and the galas are always intensely competitive so it is a real achievement to be selected to swim in them. At the end of the series all the gala points for the 3 galas are added and the two teams at the top of the league are promoted to the Premier Division and the bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the Division 2. After the first round in Exeter we were lying in 15th place with 149 points so it was particularly important in the 2nd round that we got further away from the relegation zone. We certainly did this and look forward to doing even better in the final round.

We had 8 PB's from individual swims and relay lead off legs, three first places and ten second places. There were individual wins for Jane GaryMatthew Bray and Marcus Gardiner. Individual second places for Holly Tanner (2), Jane Garry, Rory Maxwell, Jess Hicks, Isobel Press, Matthew Bray and Archie Watts.

Also second place in the relay events

Boys 15/u 4x50m Freestyle Marcus Gardiner, Sam Marshall, Alasdair Jones and Matthew Bray

Boys 11/u 4x50m Medley    Charlie Stokes, Archie Watts, Joseph Franks and Joshua Linton

A special mention must go to Guy Pearce, last year’s captain, who travelled up from Southampton to support the team – a superb effort.

The Draft results for this gala was

Torfaen ‘A ‘

230 Points

Bath

205 Points

Bristol Henleaze

175 Points

Clevedon

164 Points

Bristol Central

157 Points
