We hosted the first round of this years Arena National League at Kingswood Leisure Centre on Saturday 10th October. A huge thank you to all team members for making it to Kingswood; every swimmer put in a maximum effort and a good team performance gained us fourth place. The atmosphere was great and the support for our swimmers from the team on poolside was fantastic. Well done to you all. There were wins in six individual events – Abi Bowring (2), Rebecca Guy (2), Oliver Eyre and Jess Hicks. Jess swam a powerful 50m freestyle in a superb 29.98 seconds, a 1.04 second PB breaking through the 30 second barrier. Jess also did a superb swim to anchor the 13 yr girls’ medley team (Molly Hughes, Abi Bowring, Joanna Taylor and Jess Hicks) to our only relay win of the night. There were second places for Molly Hughes, Oliver Eyre and Ashley St Leger (great to see you come back Ash to support the club) and the open ladies relay team (Rebecca Allen, Jane Garry, Phillipa Gamblin, Katie McLernon, Megan Mclernon and Rebecca Guy). Two other swimmers deserve special mention – Luke Porter for a superb 1.32 second PB in the men’s open 100m breaststroke and Joanna Taylor for volunteering to swim up in the 15 yr girls 100m butterfly and scoring two valuable points for the team. Congratulations to Street for a great win. The provisional result is:- Street 236 City of Cardiff ‘B’ 209 Blaenau Gwent 172 BHSC 160 Clevedon 155 Stroud 108 Round 2 is on Saturday 14th November so please put the date in your diary and I will let you know as soon as we know where it will be and the start time. |
