Congratulations to all 36 swimmers who took part in our first ever gala against Clifton High School, and in particular to those swimmers who represented the club for the first time. We do appreciate the effort that all of our parents, swimmers and helpers made in getting to Clifton so promptly after school – not an easy thing to do! Our swimmers clocked up a marvellous 42 PB’s and 11 times for events that they had not swum before. PB of the gala goes to Henry Sweet for taking over 14s off his previous time for 25m breaststroke – well done Henry! Several other swimmers also recorded large PB’s and they are: 25m freestyle: Ella Beavon (4s), Ioan Crow (7s), Anna Davis (5s) 25m backstroke: Joshua Jones (5s), Ella Hawkins (4s), Nell DeWinton (3s), Annie Sutton (4s), Anna Davis (6s) 25m breaststroke: Tilly DuBuisson (4s), Teya Cardinal (4s), Jake Weeks (3s) 25m butterfly: Rory Maxwell (4s) The two teams were very evenly matched, with CHS winning the Yr 4 and Yr 5 races, but BHSC won the Yr6 races in such style that the overall result was a win for Bristol Henleaze. More important than the result is the opportunity this gala gave to so many of our younger swimmers to swim for the club. Points are as follows: Yr 4: BHSC 94, CHS 108 Yr 5: BHSC 101, CHS 103 Yr 6: BHSC 143, CHS 60 Gala result: BHSC 338, CHS 271 Thank you to Diane Kingston and all of the other staff and senior pupils at Clifton High for hosting a very successful gala. All of your swimmers (some of whom are also Bristol Henleaze members and swam brilliantly!) were a credit to the school and should be very proud of their performances and behaviour. A big thank you also goes to our helpers; Emily, Frankie, Sophie, Rosalie, Tamsin, Marco, Brian, Sandra and Richard for their hard work in getting the swimmers to the right place at the right time and to Curtis for lifeguarding. |
