Sunday 20th May 2012, Venue: Millfield Pool, Street, Somerset. Atmosphere: electric: Swimmers: ready for it! Two teams from Bristol Henleaze entered the ASA SW Region Team Relays today (25m), the 9/10 yrs Girls and the 13/14 yrs Girls. 9/10 yr Girls: Laura Waters, Grace Caple, Oriana Munden & Alysia Maestri. 13/14 yr Girls: Morgane Shaban, Charlie Waters, Molly Huckle & Maddie Nairn. The first event was the 9/10 yrs 200m Freestyle team with a total of 13 teams competing and the girls were going into heat 2 as the fastest, so no pressure there then girls. As ever it was all handled in a superbly calm way and the behaviour of all the swimmers throughout the day was impeccable. Great warm ups, no moaning and a good fighting spirit! They did not disappoint coming 1st in the heats 2s faster than their entry time. They were up again in Event 10 the 9/10 200m Medley and managed a fantastic 3rd place out of 13 teams, Oriana Munden heading off with the Back, Alysia Maestri with the Breaststroke, Laura Waters with Fly and Grace Caple with Free. Would it be possible to pull even more out of those engines to improve in the final......? Event 6 saw the 13/14 yr girls in the 200m Medley with Morgane Shaban leading them off in the back, Maddie Nairn next with the Breaststroke, Charlie Waters with the Fly and then Molly Huckle finishing with the Free. They secured a good sharp 7th place out of 11 teams which having gone in as 10th was a good result, they were in the final! Event 14 saw the girls up again in the 200m Freestyle team and finished a respectable 8th place out of 11 teams, improving on their entry time and making it into another final! The finals were as exciting as expected with the 9/10 yr Girls taking GOLD in the 200m Freestyle final with a time of 2.21.11, still faster than their entry time and after all the racing and hanging around they should be thrilled and proud of their achievements today, and I think the parents were pretty happy too! There was still more to come for the 9/10 yr Girls with SILVER in the 200m Medley final finishing in 2.43.44, faster than their time in the heats and an improved placing. WELL DONE. The 13/14 yr Girls 200m Medley final saw the older girls finishing 8th with a time of 2.23.45 and then a 7th place in the 200m Freestyle final with 2.05.82, so an improvement by a place, well done girls it was a tough final but all of you gave it 110%. There were lots of PB’s when reviewing the splits and also some yummy cakes as a treat at the end! Keep up the hard work at training and you can all improve even further (is that possible) ABSOLUTELY J
