Monday 23rd  2016

This A Final gala was the held at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in Weston-Super-Mare. It was the top final in the Series of 5 galas. In this Series there are 20 clubs from the Gloucester and Somerset area. These galas are the designed to give good club swimmers and inexperienced swimmers the chance of taking part in competition galas. At the end of first 4 rounds of the Series the total number of gala points gained by each club is calculated. The 5th round of the Series consists of three finals. The top 8 clubs swim in the A Final, the middle 6 clubs in the B Final and the bottom 6 clubs in the C Final. The teams we were against in the A final this year were Cinderford, Penguins, Cirencester, Wellington, Clevedon and Bishopsworth and Cheddar.  For the second time in the history of the Cotswold Series the only restrictions on who can swim were time limits. These time limits were placed on the swimmers in all races. If swimmers go faster than the time limits set for that race they would score no points for their club. Swimmers can only swim in the final if the swum in at least one of the first four rounds. In the A Final gala our team had 10 PBs from individual swims.  We had 5 first places in individual events. We had 5 second places 3 in individual events and 2 in relays.

During this series we used 62 swimmers over the first 4 rounds and these swimmers have achieved our aim which was to reach the A Final. Unfortunately a significant number of our swimmers were unable to swim in the A Final due to other commitments this made it hard for our team as a lot of our swimmers had to swim up in higher age groups to cover. In the final there were some excellent swims. Once again I would like to say a big thank-you again to all our swimmers that took part in the Cotswold series 2016, the helpers with team and officials poolside that helped at the galas.
