British and English Nationals

Over the course of the next 10 days swimmers from Bristol Henleaze will be taking part in the Summer National Championships, at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield. The huge programme of racing kicks off this week with the British Nationals - an event that invites the top 24 ranked swimmers for each event at each age group to pit their end of season fuel tanks against one another!!! With such a small number of places available for qualification and usually such a small time differential between the fastest and 24th fastest entrant, the dash for a place in the 10 man (or woman) final is always guaranteed to be a nail biter! We watch with baited breath therefore to see how Oriana Munden (50 backstroke - an exceptional finalist from last year) and Alysia Maestri (50 freestyle) get on and wish them both the best of luck!!

The second week of racing marks the ASA English Nationals - whereby the next fastest 20 English swimmers (after the top 24) are invited in to a similar fray - and if Alysia’s achievements from last summer are anything to go by, these guys want to show the British qualifiers that they have a point to prove (Alysia’s bronze in the 50 backstroke in the English Champs would have placed her in the final of the British!!!!) Alysia and Oriana are again in action and joined by Bartek Karpisz (looking tanned having just returned from the European University in Games in Croatia where he narrowly missed the final in his first International meet); Matt Bray and Annie Brown.

So best of luck to all competitions, live streaming of the results for the British Champs can be found here:

and results for the English will be posted when they become available from Monday next week!
