AGM 10th May 2017 - Chair's statement

I would like to start this meeting with some sad news. This week we heard that Judith Bush, current President of BHSC sadly passed away. Judith's contribution to the club was immense over many, many years. She taught lots of swimmers all over Bristol and was still actively recruiting for us in recent times. A large majority of our members will have encountered her as they passed through her experienced hands. Therefore it is fitting to thank Judith on behalf of Bristol Henleaze Swimming Club for all her help and support over the years. We pass on our sincere condolences to her family.

I will begin club business tonight by thanking the people who help run this club and doing a grand job efficiently, all the members of the committee along with many volunteers.Thank you very much to Tamsin Watts (welfare) and Debbie Gibbs for their contributions, both of whom left the committee recently. Hello Tina Huckle (who returns as welfare) and Judy Barratt who joins the committee as parent rep. We welcome both to this amazing team!

Many thanks once again to Brian Guy(treasurer), Richard Edwards and Kathryn Wragg who help make the running of the club a lot smoother.

On a coaching front thank you to Jez and all the team in ensuring the club continues to grow on an annual basis.

Our new partnership with Clifton High School is in its infancy, we have received some very good feedback from the school and parents regarding the first two terms of this new venture.

Results in the pool have been great and an improvement has been seen at all levels. It was a pleasure to see so many young swimmers at the counties once again. They did the club proud with very fast swimming, their behaviour and conduct was exemplary as always.

Thank you also to our parent officials for giving up their time throughout the year and for Nicola Heffner for her excellent coaching & organisation of the people in white!

We also couldn’t run this club without the help of our parent volunteers who work endlessly to make the galas and open meets run like clockwork.

It’s a fact that we are probably one of the most successful clubs in Bristol due to everyone’s input: from top to bottom, we simply couldn’t do it without all of you that give up your time so generously.

On this note I would like to look ahead as we try and make sure Henleaze moves with the times and technology to help all involved with the club. Lots happening and we hope to be able to share news with you soon. In the meantime, we are also currently in talks with other organisations to see how we can make the club grow. Exciting times!
