Cotswold Series 2019 Round 1 January 12th 2019

This gala was the held at Easton Leisure Centre and was the first of the Series of 5 galas, the final gala to be held on Saturday May 24th...In the Series there are 20 clubs mainly from the Gloucester and Somerset area. These galas are the designed to give good club swimmers and inexperienced swimmers the chance of taking part in competition galas. At the end of first 4 rounds of the Series the total number of gala points gained by each club is calculated. The 5th round of the Series consists of three finals. The top 8 clubs swim in the A Final, the middle 6 clubs in the B Final and the bottom 6 clubs in the C Final. The teams we were against for this gala were Bristol North , Burnham and Bristol Penguins.. Bristol Henleaze was hosting this gala. For the fifth year in the history of the Cotswold Series the only restrictions on who can swim were time limits. These time limits were placed on the swimmers in all the individual and relay team races. If swimmers go faster than the time limits set for that race they would score no points for their club.

In the gala our team had 24 PBs from individual swims.  We had 32 first places, 20 in individual events and 12 in the relays.  During the gala there were  infringements of the time limits from our swimmers. We had 8 second places, 5 in individual events and 3 in relays.  This was an excellent first round performance given there were a total of 53 events and our club came first or second in 40 of these events.

The Draft  results for the four  teams in this gala were

Bristol Henleaze             171 Points

Bristol North                    133 Points

Bristol Penguins             121 Points

Burnham                          99 Points

We now move on to Round 2 on Saturday 16th February at Wellington Sports Centre. I would like thank the team that swam in this first gala for giving us a great start on which to build. A big thank-you to our 16 helpers and officials from Bristol Henleaze that made this gala run so smoothly.
