Bristol swimming legend, Brian Guy sadly passes away...

Brian Guy, father of one of Bristol Henleaze’s most successful swimming exports in recent times, Rebecca, has sadly passed away after battling illness.

Brian was a former Chairman, treasurer, official and most recently, Honorary President, of Bristol Henleaze Swimming Club. Having been involved as a parent initially, starting back when Rebecca was a junior member, he became a tireless volunteer for the Club, City and entire swimming community.

Throughout his involvement with BHSC, Brian pioneered for Bristol to be a leading force in British Swimming, and fought many causes, in wake of pool closures and programme reviews, to ensure opportunities for swimmers were always present and that the potential for athletes to reach their highest achievements was catered for.

His daughter, Rebecca, went on from becoming a National Champion in Bristol colours, to representing GB and England as a member of the City of Manchester Swim Squad, where she departed for University in September 2010.

Brian continued his work in Bristol and spread his undying enthusiasm for the sport around the world, as he followed his daughter from meet to meet. He was a true fan of swimming, championed excellence and gave such a huge part of his life and his love to support the sport in which his daughter excelled, and in which he had so many positive views and ideas in ensuring continued success for clubs throughout the local area.

Brian further out-reached this passion in becoming President of Gloucester County, and continued to represent Bristol Henleaze as a dual role within GCASA.

He will be sadly, sadly missed; forever remembered as one of Bristol’s leading voices in swimming and always treasured as an integral part of the City and County’s swimming infrastructure.
